The Canadian team outscored its opponents 45-14 while compiling a 6-0-1 record to claim top spot in the round-robin tournament. It was Canadas first attempt at putting together a true, national, junior team and its success paved the way for future golden efforts. On the way to its first championship, Canada handed the Soviets their worst-ever defeat, a 7-0 shellacking, before tying the Czechs to wrap things up. While not possessing any future NHL superstars, the 1982 squad boasted a ton of junior talent. Mike Moller finished fourth in tournament scoring and was named the events all-star left-winger. He was joined on the tournament all-star team by defenceman Gord Kluzak and goaltender Mike Moffat. Kluzak and Moffat also won awards as the tournaments top defenceman and top goaltender, respectively. Without star power up front, the team relied on a balanced attack. Canadas total of 45 goals was second to Finlands 47 during the tournament, as eleven different players scored at least twice for the red-and-white. The tournaments top three scorers all came from Finland (Raimo Summanen, Petri Skriko, and Risto Jalo), but the Finns (5-2-0) only managed a bronze medal thanks to a weak defence. Canada, on the other hand, allowed a tourney-low 14 goals against. Only the Czechs, who won silver after allowing just 17 goals, were close in that department. The next best defensive club, the USSR, coughed up 25 goals. Kluzak simply dominated in his own zone, with support from future NHL defenders like James Patrick, Gary Nyland, Garth Butcher, Paul Boutilier and Randy Moller. All six were first round NHL Draft picks. It was on their broad shoulders that Canada claimed its first ever world junior title. TSN primes Vancouver fans for the start of the 2014 season with MLS on TSN: Season Preview Special airing tonight at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt on TSN2 (encore Friday at 3:30pm et/12:30pm pt on TSN2).TORONTO - Randy Carlyle was asked about whether some of his injured players might be ready for opening night, but his answer strayed to healthy ones, too.I still think we have a couple days before we make that final assessment on everybody, Carlyle said. I would say that theres some performances you just cant ignore a€” positively and negatively.Forgive Carlyle for linking the two, as a handful of injuries have clouded the Toronto Maple Leafs roster outlook leading up to final cuts. Even if ultra-durable Phil Kessel is good to go for Wednesdays season opener against the Montreal Canadiens despite a lower-body injury, its not clear whether centre Tyler Bozak (lower body), winger Josh Leivo (bruised foot) and defenceman Cody Franson (bruised knee) will be ready.Jobs hang in the balance.Theres no replacement for Bozak on the roster, but it would be a trickle-down effect if hes not ready. The Leafs No. 1 centre and Kessels running mate missed the start of camp and appeared in just three pre-season games, missing Fridays finale.Leivos health could affect a handful of Leafs on the bubble, most notably Matt Frattin, who had a camp Carlyle described as mediocre. His last game mightve been his best. The one thing that he did is he was physical, and thats what weve asked Fratty that that part of his game has to be up there for him to make a contribution, Carlyle said. Thats what we believe in our assessment of him when weve had him here previously: He becomes a much more effective player when hes on the body. With undersized winger Brandon Kozun earning a spot as the most pleasant surprise of training camp, it looks like theres room for one of Colton Orr, Frazer McLaren, Carter Ashton and William Nylander. Each player except Nylander requires waivers, so decisions should be coming before Monday at noon so the 23-man group can be set by 5 p.m. Tuesday.Orr is a favourite of Carlyles, and even though he has emphasized team toughness, the veteran enforcer looks like a good bet to be on the team, even if its iin a platoon role as a 13th forward.ddddddddddddFranson factors in, too, because it would determine if Toronto keeps 14 forwards and seven defencemen or 13 and eight. He skated only at the end of Saturdays practice and is focused on getting the swelling down and bringing back some more range of motion. Its getting better, Franson said Saturday. Theres definitely still some work to do to get it back to game shape, but its a step in the right direction.Franson said his goal was to play Wednesday. If he cant, 2011 first-round pick Stuart Percy could make his NHL debut.Percy, a 21-year-old lefty, stood out in camp and earned at least the seventh-defenceman job, helped by veteran Henrik Tallinder injuring his shoulder while on a tryout. Friend and former AHL roommate Korbinian Holzer, a righty, would be in line to be No. 8.Korby, hes had an outstanding training camp for us, Carlyle said. Hes played some real good hockey games for us. We feel that hes got a shot at making our hockey club.Holzer, who played 22 games for the Leafs during the lockout-shortened 2013 season, feels like this is his best of five training camps.I think Ive done everything I could to leave a good impression, the 26-year-old German said. I will never be a flashy guy who will score 10 goals or whatever. I think I had some good games and I just feel like overall it was a good pre-season.There wasnt much tension at Saturdays practice, even with cuts looming. But some anxious moments await, and even though 37-year-old veteran Stephane Robidas is safe, he emphasizes with his teammates on the edge.I remember that feeling where you show up to training camp and youre hoping its going to be the year where youre going to make it and youre close and you dont know what to expect, Robidas said. But I think all the young guys they played very well and they dont make the job easy on the GM and the coaches that have to make those decisions because I think a lot of those young guys played very well.---Follow @SWhyno on Twitter Wholesale MLB Orioles Jerseys Red Sox Jerseys From China Discount Yankees Jerseys Online Rays Jerseys For Sale Blue Jays Jerseys From China Wholesale MLB White Sox Jerseys Indians Jerseys For Sale Tigers Jerseys From China Wholesale MLB Astros Jerseys Cheap Baseball Angels Jerseys Athletics Jerseys From China Mariners Jerseys For Sale Cheap Baseball Rangers Jerseys Braves Jerseys For Sale Discount Marlins Jerseys Online Discount Mets Jerseys Online Phillies Jerseys From China Wholesale MLB Nationals Jerseys Cubs Jerseys From China Discount Reds Jerseys Online Brewers Jerseys From China Wholesale MLB Pirates Jerseys Wholesale MLB Cardinals Jerseys Diamondbacks Jerseys For Sale Rockies Jerseys For Sale Discount Dodgers Jerseys Online Discount Padres Jerseys Online Giants Jerseys For Sale ' ' '
